Picnic and Peafowl

Yesterday started out as rainy and dreary, so we had an indoor picnic with some of Louise's favorite animals.



Today, however, was sunny and hot, so we headed out to the Nature Center where we could visit with real animals and stroll in the shade. In addition to the usual, we spotted baby chicks, lots of turtles, very active grey wolves, and 5 baby peafowl (peacocks, ya know!) waddling around with their mother. The peahen and her chicks were a real find, since it didn't seem like anyone else there today got a peek at them. Louise and I found a quiet place to picnic and ate for about 20 minutes before the peahen and her chicks wandered into view. The chicks looked to be about 2 weeks old, if I were to guess by comparing them to the baby chickens we saw in the barn. They were soft and grey and brown, with markings all over. So sweet! The ones pictured above are from somewhere else, but that's what they looked like.
