We got back from Michigan on Monday afternoon. What a trip! The weather was absolutely amazing, and we got to see almost all of Mike's family.
We started off by meeting the Schmids for dinner at Smoky Bones restaurant. Celine (Mike's aunt) was getting ready to move to Colorado the next day, so we were able to say goodbye to her before she left. Louise wasn't sure what to think of Mike's uncle John at first, but she eventually gave him a smile and a wave. Mike's cousin Jenny was crowned Pulaski court this year, which I gather is part of an annual Polish celebration in Michigan. Mike's cousin Steve was there with his new wife, Molly. They had a big Polish wedding last year and we had to miss it because I was still pregnant with Louise.
On Saturday Mike's Aunt Sue visited and gave Louise a really fun (and noisy) toy car. She loved it and put on quite a show for us all.
We visited with Grandma and Grandpa Anderson. They live in the same house in which Grandpa Anderson was born and raised, and of course Mike's dad was raised there also. What a treat to see them again.
We also took a trip to see Mike's Grandma Kozlowski, who lives in a nursing home. She really came to life when she saw Louise. It was amazing and we were so lucky to have witnessed it.
We got to spend almost the whole weekend with Mike's sis, Melissa, and her hubby, Brian, and that was fun. They are always a good time!
Mike’s parents hosted us and were so amazing. Louise could not get enough of them. She loved sitting in her Grandpa’s lap, trying to pull off his glasses and hat. She had lots of laughs with Grandma Busia. Busia is an affectionate term from Grandmother in Polish, so we thought that would be a perfect nickname for Mike’s mom.
Lastly, I’ll mention the plane ride and the airport. Everything went relatively smoothly. Lucky for us, Louise had just learned how to wave and say “Hi” in the cutest way, so she was constantly entertained by people waving back at her in delight.
The trip was great, and we are so glad to be home. I’m going to bed now, we’ve had another big day. Night night!
